Dr. John Funnell, OD
Dr. John Funnell’s undergraduate studies were at UCLA, and he received his Doctor of Optometry degree with honors from U.C. Berkeley. Dr. Funnell has advanced expertise in contact lenses, refractive surgery, and children’s vision and learning.
He is a fellow in the American Academy of Optometry (F.A.A.O.) and a co-founder of the Foundation for Learning Development. Vision Source is a national network of professional optometry offices and Dr. Funnell is a Los Angeles area administrator. Dr. Funnell participates in FDA studies, lectures on practice management, and has mentored numerous optometry students and new graduates.
Dr. Funnell’s wife, Diane Burns M.D., is an obstetrician-gynecologist and they have three sons Forrest, Tom, and Johnny. Together they enjoy winter sports, bicycling, scuba, and travel. Dr. Funnell has been practicing at this office in Manhattan Beach since 1980 and enjoys the opportunity to be part of a dynamic optometry group that is dedicated to excellence in personalized vision care.
Dr. Gregg Okada, OD
Dr. Gregg Okada is well known for his expertise in the most specialized of contact lens fittings (including bifocals), LASIK/intra-ocular lens implant surgery co-management, and advanced red or dry eye treatments. He also exhibits great interest in children’s vision.
In 2005, Dr. Okada was one of the first 20 optometrists in the U.S. to achieve an Orthokeratology Fellowship (F.I.A.O.). He furthered his corneal reshaping training in Tokyo, Japan alongside the prominent Dr. Kenji Yoshida, MD. A leader in this ever-growing field, Dr. Okada has reshaped over 1,000 corneas to help patients reduce the need for daytime glasses or contact lenses. He received his Bachelor’s degree from UCLA in 1979 and his Doctorate degree from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1984. Professional memberships he’s currently active in are the American Optometric Association, California Optometric Association, American Academy of Orthokeratology, South Bay Optometric Society, and on the Laser Center (TLC) Optometry Advisory Board.
Dr. Okada was raised in the South Bay and currently resides in Manhattan Beach with his wife and two children. He is truly the family eye doctor who would certainly take care of your family like his own.
Annie Tam, OD
Dr. Annie Tam graduated from UC San Diego with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree from SUNY College of Optometry in New York City. While on the east coast, she gained 6 years of extensive ocular disease experience in an ophthalmology practice located in Flushing, New York. She treated glaucoma patients as well as provided pre and post-operative care for LASIK, cataract and corneal transplant patients.
In 2006, Dr. Tam moved to California to be closer to her family. She joined the Beverly Hills Institute of Ophthalmology where she specialized in providing her patients with the most advanced options in soft and rigid gas permeable contact lenses. She also has extensive experience in fitting multifocal as well as scleral contact lenses.
Dr. Tam chose to bring her expertise to Manhattan Vision Group for its emphasis on providing quality vision care to patients of all ages and to treat each patient as if they are family. She currently lives in Redondo Beach with her husband, two sons and their dog, Henry.
Dr. Michael Tran, OD
Dr. Michael Tran is dedicated to providing exceptional eye care to improve the quality of life of his patients. He completed his undergraduate studies in Integrative Biology and Physiology at UCLA and received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern California College of Optometry with honors. After completing optometry school, he completed his residency at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Long Beach with a focus in primary eye care and low vision rehabilitation.
After completing his training, he began working in an ophthalmology practice in Orange County where he developed extensive experience in the early detection and treatment of ocular diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. During his time there, he specialized in fitting soft and hard contact lenses including scleral lenses. He also provided pre and post-operative care for cataract and corneal transplant patients.
Dr. Tran has chosen to practice with Manhattan Beach Vision Group due to our commitment to providing patients with quality vision care through the use of the latest technologies in the field. He is committed to addressing the vision needs of all his patients as well as providing patients with a full understanding of their visit.
In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, cooking and experimenting with making new ice cream flavors!
Dr. Lara Priest
Dr. Lara Priest graduated from UCLA with a bachelor’s degree in Psychobiology and earned her Doctor of Optometry degree with honors from Southern California College of Optometry. After completion of optometry school, she completed a residency at VA Long Beach in primary care. She practices the full scope of optometry including diagnosis and management of ocular diseases. She also has experience with post-operative management of LASIK and cataract surgeries. Her favorite part of optometry is the interactions and relationships formed with patients, as well as ensuring they receive high quality vision care.
She has lived in the South Bay for most of her life. In her free time she enjoys spending time with family and friends, cooking, and playing beach volleyball.
