Meet the experienced and friendly doctors who make Manhattan Beach Vision Group a proud provider of vision care products and services in Manhattan Beach.


Dr. John Funnell, OD

Dr. John Funnell’s undergraduate studies were at UCLA, and he received his Doctor of Optometry degree with honors from U.C. Berkeley. Dr. Funnell has advanced expertise in contact lenses, refractive surgery, and children’s vision and learning.

He is a fellow in the American Academy of Optometry (F.A.A.O.) and a co-founder of the Foundation for Learning Development. Vision Source is a national network of professional optometry offices and Dr. Funnell is a Los Angeles area administrator. Dr. Funnell participates in FDA studies, lectures on practice management, and has mentored numerous optometry students and new graduates.

Dr. Funnell’s wife, Diane Burns M.D., is an obstetrician-gynecologist and they have three sons Forrest, Tom, and Johnny. Together they enjoy winter sports, bicycling, scuba, and travel. Dr. Funnell has been practicing at this office in Manhattan Beach since 1980 and enjoys the opportunity to be part of a dynamic optometry group which is dedicated to excellence in personalized vision care.


Dr. Gregg Okada, OD

Dr. Gregg Okada is well known for his expertise in the most specialized of contact lens fittings (including bifocals), lasik/intra-ocular lens implant surgery co-management, and advanced red or dry eye treatments. He also exhibits great interest in children’s vision.

In 2005, Dr. Okada was one of the first 20 optometrists in the U.S. to achieve an Orthokeratology Fellowship (F.I.A.O.). He furthered his corneal reshaping training in Tokyo, Japan alongside the prominent Dr. Kenji Yoshida, MD. A leader in this ever growing field, Dr. Okada has reshaped over 1,000 corneas to help patients reduce the need for daytime glasses or contact lenses. He received his Bachelorate degree from UCLA in 1979 and his Doctorate degree from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1984. Professional memberships he’s currently active in are the American Optometric Association, California Optometric Association, American Academy of Orthokeratology, South Bay Optometric Society, and on the Laser Center (TLC) Optometry Advisory Board.

Dr. Okada was raised in the South Bay and currently resides in Manhattan Beach with his wife and two children. He is truly the family eye doctor who would certainly take care of your family like his own.


Dr. Dale Choi, OD

Dr. Dale Choi graduated from the University of California, San Diego with his Bachelor’s degree in cognitive science, specializing in human computer interaction. He went on to attain his Doctor of Optometry from the University of California, Berkeley School of Optometry with honors, with membership to the Betta Sigma Kappa honors society for all four years.

Dr. Choi has advanced expertise in dry eye treatment, ocular disease management including glaucoma, and specialty contact lenses, such as CRT and sclerals. Prior to joining Manhattan Beach Vision Group, he received clinical training at the VA Sacramento hospital, Kaiser in North Sacramento, and the VA Puget Sound hospital in Washington. He is a member of the American Optometric Association and the South Bay Optometric Society, and has performed international optometric community service work in Nicaragua, Mexico, Uganda, and the Dominican Republic.

Dr. Choi was born and raised in the greater Los Angeles area, and loves all things active, including volleyball, basketball, and running. He is an exciting piece to Manhattan Vision’s commitment to excellence in vision care.


Dr. Jasmine A. Hamid, OD

Dr. Jasmine Hamid is dedicated to quality care for her patients in a friendly and comfortable environment. She obtained her bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami and her Doctorate from Southern California College of Optometry.

Dr Hamid has participated in various internships to become well versed in ocular disease, specialty contact lens and LASIK. She is also a published author in the Journal of Optometry and Vision Science for her 2010 study on eye alignment.

Her professional career began in New York City, where she developed a passion for taking into consideration her patients individual vision needs, to provide the best combination of vision clarity and comfort. When she moved to Manhattan Beach in 2015, she practiced in a general ophthalmology office where she developed advanced expertise in ocular health, emergency patients, and the early detection and treatment of diseases such as glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.

Dr. Hamid has chosen to practice with Manhattan Beach Vision Group due to our commitment to providing patients with quality full scope vision care through use of the latest technologies in the field. She is committed to addressing the vision needs of all people and participates in international philanthropic efforts to bring eye care to those in need across the world.

When not seeing patients, Dr. Hamid enjoys spending time with her family, good food, traveling, and running on the strand.


Annie Tam, OD

Dr. Annie Tam graduated from UC San Diego with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree from SUNY College of Optometry in New York City. While on the east coast, she gained 6 years of extensive ocular disease experience in an ophthalmology practice located in Flushing, New York. She treated glaucoma patients as well as provided pre and post operative care for LASIK, cataract and corneal transplant patients.

In 2006, Dr. Tam moved to California to be closer to her family. She joined the Beverly Hills Institute of Ophthalmology where she specialized in providing her patients with the most advanced options in soft and rigid gas permeable contact lenses. She also has extensive experience in fitting multifocal as well as scleral contact lenses.

Dr. Tam chose to bring her expertise to Manhattan Vision Group for its emphasis on providing quality vision care to patients of all ages and to treat each patient as if they are family. She currently lives in Redondo Beach with her husband, two sons and their dog, Henry.
